The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for a
Remittance Processing Specialist in Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.
Position Summary
- Responsible for processing of customer payments received via kiosks, internet, and through direct contact with our customers in accordance to standardized procedures. Provides training and coaching to other staff members.
Essential Functions
- Process customer service transactions utilizing information received via telephone, mail, computer, or direct contact
- Utilize the computer to enter, retrieve and update customer information on account adjustments, deposits, billing account itemizations, etc.
- Utilize customer relations skills to manage customer interactions and respond to customer complaints and inquiries in an efficient, accurate, and customer centric manner
- Reconcile previous day’s receipts from all payment sources (cashiers, ACH, EFT, wires, checks, etc.)
- Monitor and maintain Energy Draft Program for State of Michigan
- Maintain Cash Receipts Journal for Customer Accounting. Monitor bank statements for payments and returned payments
- Maintain Petty Cash; work with other departments for reimbursement; order cash and coin from bank; continually balance for accuracy
- Work with internal and external auditors
- Provide training and coaching to other staff
- Research and correct payment issues as needed
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment
- Attends all training for safety awareness and skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA
Job Specifications
- Demonstrated performance, ability, and RPR level 3 skills
- Must pass pre-selection leadership assessment
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Must be able to retrieve data from hand-written, typed and computerized sources
- Must be able to read customer checks, requests, and payment schedules
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time processing mail
- Occasional bending, twisting and stooping are required to operate mail processing equipment
- Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines and difficult customer situations
- Normal office environment
